NGOs partner to set up Food Bank to help vulnerable persons in Abuja

 

With the lockdown order extended for another 14 days by President Muhummadu Buhari in a nationwide broadcast for the containment of the infectious Coronavirus otherwise known as Covid-19, a group of non-governmental organizations are setting up the Abuja Food Bank in order to feed poor families in the FCT.

Abuja Food Bank project is an initiative powered by Talk Abuja and Touch for Recovery Outreach International in partnership with Dr Yusuf Foundation and Colours of Life Foundation geared towards providing food for poor households as the continious lockdown will have greater effect on them.

It will be recalled that in March, President Buhari ordered for a two-week stay-at-home for residents of Abuja which resulted to hardship in the federal capital moved with compassion, Dr. Yusuf and his team made donations in kind and cash to different households.

Dr. Yusuf, who is the Senior Pastor of TROI Abuja and founder, Dr. Yusuf Foundation made several efforts to reach out to the needy in order to ameliorate their suffering in this difficult time, is in this partnership to further push the efforts to reach more households.

According to him, his goal is to help to Feed one family in the FCT as this second phase of the lockdown will be tough and challenging.

The non-governmental organizations are calling for more partners and well meaning individuals in society to join in the effort to providse food for the needy in Abuja as some households are daily income earners who were never prepared for the extension of the lockdown.

The creation of the Food Bank is necessiatied by the growing concerns for the households that can not cater for the feeding needs of their family within the period therefore the call for willing donations from the public is critical to the survival of these households in times like this.
