Nigeria Drop To Sixth In Africa, 30th Globally In Latest FIFA Ranking
By Boye Goodluck, SPORTS DESK – Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped four places to 30th in the latest FIFA Men’s World Ranking released on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, falling from 26th position globally.
The latest ranking also sees Nigeria slip to sixth place among African nations following a mixed international window under head coach Eric Chelle.
The three-time African champions endured an inconsistent run of results during the period, recording one victory, one defeat and one draw.
Nigeria began the window with a 2-1 home victory over Madagascar before suffering a 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The Super Eagles then ended the window with a 3-3 draw against Russia in an international friendly played on Tuesday.
The results have now contributed to Nigeria’s four-place drop in the latest FIFA ranking, with the team moving from 26th to 30th in the world.
The decline comes as Chelle continues to build the national team ahead of upcoming competitive fixtures, with Nigeria expected to improve its consistency if the Super Eagles are to climb back up the FIFA rankings and strengthen their position among Africa’s leading football nations.
