Oil and Gas: FG Signs Partnership with Foreign Universities to Train Personnel
As part of effort in ensuring that the oil and gas sector remains competitive and self-sustaining the federal government of Nigeria has signed an agreement with Scottish universities to train scholars in the sector.
The Minister of state for Petroleum (oil),Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, announced the partnership on Thursday after signing the MoU with the foreign partners.
A statement issued by the SA Media and Communication to the Minister, Nneamaka Okafor, quoted the Minister as saying “Capacity building is key to the success of our oil and gas sector, and achieving this domestically offers significant benefits in terms of cost savings and the ability to train a larger number of professionals”
This collaboration reflects our commitment to aligning global best practices with local needs.
Through a strategic collaboration with Scottish universities, PTDF is driving knowledge transfer to the College of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Kaduna.
This initiative ensures that more scholars are trained locally while maintaining the global quality required to meet industry demands.
To formalize this partnership, I had the privilege of signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, and the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow.
These institutions have been trusted partners, supporting the training of our foreign-sponsored scholars for years. With this agreement, we are bringing their expertise directly to Nigeria to bolster local capacity.
