Oloibiri-Run Yenagoa Half Marathon: Reinventing History Through Sports
The Oloibiri-Run Yenagoa Half Marathon is a special marathon event essentially designed to reinvent a historic milestone recorded in the ambitious search for oil in Nigeria which began over a hundred years ago, resulting in the discovery of the first oil well in Nigeria, the Oloibiri Well #1 in 1957.
Oloibiri-Run brings back established memories of over sixty years of oil and gas production and development activities as a catalyst upon which the oil and gas economy kick started.
The event serves as a strategic platform to give national and international recognition and visibility to Oloibiri Well #1 in an attempt to promote and preserve for posterity the Oloibiri national historical heritage that has far too long been neglected abandoned and seemingly forgotten.
Designed as an annual event brand, the Oloibiri-Run Yenagoa Half Marathon is positioned to achieve several accruable socio-economic benefits to individual participants and institutional partners, organizations and brands.
Some of the benefits include, talent and sports development, raising national and global icons, culture and tourism promotion, employment generation, etc.
The Oloibiri-Run Yenagoa Half Marathon has indeed received official endorsements from several federal and state organizations, chief of which is from the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
In the official letter of endorsement signed by the Minister of Petroleum Resources (state), Chief Timipre Sylva, the Minister called on stakeholders of the oil and gas industry to give their full support to Mahogany 21st Century Concepts organizers of the marathon event to help bring this well thought-out initiative to fruition.
The Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, Bayelsa State Ministry of Youths and Sports, Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) amongst others, have all given their full official endorsements to the event.
Inauguration of the Organizing Committee of the Oloibiri-Run Yenagoa Half Marathon is scheduled to hold soon and the event proper comes up in the first quarter of 2021.
