Oyo Set to Deploy State-Owned Surveillance Aircraft as Security Operations Intensify
Ibadan – Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has disclosed that the state’s surveillance aircraft, procured to strengthen security operations and intelligence gathering, is currently undergoing final assembly at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Lagos and will soon be deployed for operational use.
The governor made the revelation while receiving a delegation from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) led by Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Abdul Suleh, who represented the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, during a courtesy visit.
Makinde expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Air Force for its sustained support in tackling security challenges across Oyo State, particularly through aerial surveillance missions that have assisted security agencies in monitoring criminal activities and coordinating responses.
According to the governor, intelligence generated from the Air Force’s surveillance operations has provided critical insights to security personnel on the ground, helping authorities better understand and address emerging threats in parts of the state.
He noted that the state-owned surveillance aircraft, acquired by his administration as part of efforts to enhance internal security architecture, is presently at the Air Force Base in Lagos awaiting completion of assembly and operational preparations.
“We look forward to receiving the assembled aircraft very soon so that it can be used for the purpose for which it was procured,” the governor stated.
Security analysts have described the acquisition of the aircraft as a strategic investment in modern security infrastructure, capable of supporting intelligence gathering, border monitoring, emergency response coordination, and surveillance of vulnerable areas.
The development comes as the Oyo State Government continues to strengthen collaboration with federal security agencies in its efforts to combat kidnapping, banditry, and other criminal activities threatening peace and economic development within the state.
Observers believe the deployment of the surveillance aircraft will significantly enhance the state’s capacity for real-time aerial monitoring and rapid security response, complementing ongoing operations by the Nigerian Air Force and other security formations.
The visit by the Air Force delegation further underscored the growing partnership between Oyo State and the Nigerian Air Force in addressing security concerns and promoting a safer environment for residents and investors.
