The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Francis Idu has countered a social media report about the explosion of an oil pipeline under construction at the Obuna axis of Yenagoa local government area of Bayelsa State.
Speaking to newsmen in Yenagoa, CP Francis Idu said his command quickly deployed a team of policemen to the area and intelligent report they got revealed that the social media report was completely false as the area was peaceful, stressing that there was no incidence of any pipeline explosion.
He noted that what happened at the NLG gas plant at Obuna was just an unusual increase in the gas being flared at the area as against the fake report of gas explosion on the social media.
According to him, the gas flaring goes up sometimes which does not call for panick, calling on the youths of the state to desist from any act capable of disrupting oil production activities, emphasizing that “Gov. Douye Diri has been mobilizing some youths in the state to work with the police in it’s drive of ensuring adequate security of lives and property which has yeilded positive results as there’s law and order in not only Obuna but also the entire state”.
“There is no incidence of any pipeline explosion in the state and the only incidence that occured was the unusual increase in the gas flaring at Obuna”, he stated.
