Report All Forms of Violence Against You, Beteh Charges Rivers Indigenes
Chief Barisuka Prince Beteh, president of the Federated Union of Rivers Indigenes in Bayelsa State, FURIBS otherwise called Rivers Community charges members to report all forms of gender based violence against them to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP.
Chief Barisuka Beteh gave the charge during a market sensitization campaign organized by NAPTIP in commemoration of this year’s 16 days of activism for the elimination of gender based violence at Opolo Market in Yenagoa, capital of Bayelsa state.
Represented by Mr Victor Oroyi, director of Strategy, Planning and Orientation, FURIBS, he noted that it is important for victims of violence, traffickers and molestation to report cases to NAPTIP for speedy dispensation of justice.
President of FURIBS called on Rivers indigenes residing and doing business in Bayelsa to be law-abiding and not take laws into their hands no matter the height of provocation in any case of violence against a child or woman in the state but report to NAPTIP for proper prosecution of the perpetrators.
Chief Beteh used the opportunity to invite Rivers indigenes trading at the Opolo market to identify with the union stressing that it is important to promote togetherness and brotherhood in the state.
The president of FURIBS thanked NAPTIP for involving the union in their campaign and called for more partnership and collaboration with the organizations to kick out traffickers and perpetrators of violence.
In her remark, Mrs. Abieyuwa Ikhidero, state commander of NAPTIP thanked the Rivers Community for honouring the invitation to attend the sensitation and campaign and promise to work with union.
The 16 days of activism runs from 25 November to 10 December every year to raise awareness on the issues of gender based violence and the need for its elimination from the society.
