Opening Prayer: Lord, I pray that you lead me into your truth as I meditate on your word in Jesus name.
Scripture: Exodus 32:1-14

An idol is anything, whether visible or invisible that replaces God in our lives. Read vs.1-8 and observe the foolishness of idolatry and why God’s people resorted to idol worship. They credited their deliverance to Moses, not God. Therefore, in the absence of Moses, they wanted a substitute leader, an idol, man’s handiwork! Aaron appeared unable to direct the people aright, for he agreed with their request and made a golden image for them. A leader without clear principles is a disaster! The ingratitude and impatience of God’s people robbed them of fellowship with God and drove them into the hands of the devil who is ready to give anyone deadly poison as food.
Vs.9-10 show us the consequence of idol worship. Indeed, God detests idolatry, and His judgment is upon anyone who engages in this evil. Only true and whole-hearted repentance can save us from His judgment (vs.10-14, 1 John 1:9, Ezekiel 33:7-9). Thank God for leaders like Moses. Read vs.11-14 and note those things that set him apart as a great leader.
Practice/Word Application: And So: “Fear the Lord your God, serve Him only…. Do not follow other gods” (Deuteronomy 6:13-14)
