Shun Betrayal, Conspiracy in Niger Delta, Beteh Charges
Barisuka Prince Beteh, president of Rivers Community in Bayelsa state charges people of the Niger Delta to shun betrayal and conspiracy against one another in other to see rapid development in the region.
Speaking during an event organized by Ogoni Community in Bayelsa state to mark the remembrance of the 9 Ogonis who were killed on November 10, 1995 in Yenagoa, Barisuka Prince Beteh said they were not killed by outsiders but by conspirators around them.
According to him, the resource control Ken Saro Wiwa and others fought for as come to limelight with the various developmental efforts in different part of the Niger Delta adding that he spoke against oppression and exploitation of oil producing areas.
He advises that Niger Deltans should learn to live rightly and together noting that to address the deteriorating condition of the region, the people of the Niger Delta need to work together and face their common enemy in one voice.
Beteh, a conflict resolution specialist said the 29th anniversary of the celebration calls for a sober reflection stating that it is a moment to think aback, not just for the dead but those deaths that cannot be accounted for.
Dr Madapuye Dokubo Felix, chairman of the occasion commended the efforts of the Ogoni 9 to resist the oppression of the oppressors and applauded the idea of setting aside a date to celebrate them.
Madapuye Dokubo Felix, who is the president general of South South Forum in Bayelsa state said they stood for the truth and went against injustice, oppression and unfair treatment of the Niger Delta which should be emulated.
In his part, Mr Save Nedum, chairman of Ogoni Community in Bayelsa state in his welcome speech said today the Ogoni Clean-up is in progress and believes that the exercise will reach other part of Niger Delta.
