Sophos Salako Faults Tinubu’s Silence on Arrests After Security Meeting
Public commentator and civic advocate, Sophos Salako, has issued a strongly worded response to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s statement following his emergency security meeting with Service Chiefs and heads of intelligence agencies at the State House.
In a message addressed directly to the President, Salako questioned the government’s transparency regarding the fate of those responsible for the recent wave of attacks across parts of the country. While acknowledging Tinubu’s announcement about the rescue of kidnapped victims, Salako criticised the President for offering “no clarity on whether the perpetrators of these attacks… have been apprehended or held accountable.”
Salako argued that the administration has shown quicker force against critics than against armed groups terrorising communities. He noted that the President’s emphasis on cancelling an international trip does not translate to solutions for citizens facing insecurity, hunger, and worsening hardship.
“What Nigerians need is genuine leadership, safety, and accountability,” he wrote, adding that Christian communities have faced repeated attacks with “little acknowledgment” and that many incidents are swiftly muted by what he described as government-controlled narratives.
The critic further took aim at some of the appointments within the Tinubu administration, suggesting that certain individuals with questionable pasts have contributed to the nation’s current security challenges. He also revisited the memory of the #EndSARS tragedy, describing it as a painful benchmark of leadership failure and a lingering wound in Nigeria’s collective memory.
Despite the blunt tone of his statement, Salako clarified that his concerns stem from patriotism rather than animosity: “I speak not from hostility but from a place of deep concern for the nation… I hope history finds you on the side of justice and compassion.”
His comments add to the growing wave of public scrutiny as Nigerians await measurable outcomes from the President’s latest security directives.
