Speak Out, Don’t Remain Silent When Violated, NAPTIP Bayelsa Commander Encourages Residents
Abieyuwa Ikhidero, commander of National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, Bayelsa State command encourages residents of the state to speak out when victimized or violated and not to remain silent.
Abieyuwa Ikhidero gave the encouragement while speaking with journalists during a market sensitization campaign organized by the command in commemoration of this year’s 16 days of activism for the elimination of gender based violence at Opolo Market in Yenagoa, capital of Bayelsa state.
According to her, the rising spate of violence despite the various campaign in the state is traced to the fact that many victims of violence are not willing to speak up and share their experiences.
The Bayelsa commander assured residents of their safety when they report cases of violence to the agency and justice will be dispensed speedily adding that the agency have a toll free line that can be used by the general public to report cases.
Ikhidero stated that victims should come out from their shell and speak out because there is help for them stating that the agency will guarantee their safety.
The sensitization campaign is part of the agency’s activities to commemorate of this year’s 16 days of activism for the elimination of gender based violence. An annual awareness campaign that runs from 25 November to 10 December every year.
