Support NOA in Building an Ethical and United Nation, Agency Call on Nigerians
The National Orientation Agency, NOA calls on all Nigerians to support the agency in building a nation that is more ethical and united in purpose for the promotion of peace and national development.
Director General, NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa Onilu made the call during a press conference on a nationwide sensitization campaign on the five key issues in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
Mallam Issa Onilu represented by Mr Saturday Idemudia noted that the essence of the conference was to intimate the media as a critical stakeholder on the five key issues which are Health Security, Security Awareness, Discouraging Get rich quick syndrome, World Human Rights and Tax awareness.
Mr Idemudia added that the agency is raising awareness on the key issues aimed at positively changing the attitudes and behaviors of citizens in the country.
“The government cannot win the fight alone, citizens must practice responsible behaviors, Nigerians should unite in our commitment to ensuring that we address these issues”
While speaking on Security awareness, he noted that the federal government has security as a top priority and measures have been put in place to strengthen the security systems with modern equipment as well as the expansion of the surveillance system to combat criminal activities all over the country.
In response to some questions from newsmen on discouraging the get rich quick syndrome, he urged citizens particularly young people to reject short cuts to making wealth and embrace integrity.
In his opening remark, Bayelsa State Director, Mr Edward Banigo said the agency is on a quest to build a better Nigeria which is a collective responsibility of all citizens.
Mr Banigo urged the media to use their various platforms to spread the message, to inspire and motivate citizens to act responsibly.
“Our values are fast eroding, all stakeholders, educational , traditional and religious institutions should know the source of income of people before giving them positions, chieftaincy titles”
The theme for the Press conference is Promoting Awareness, Ethical Values and National Development.
