The sun is gentle on us today. It’s brightness comes out gently amidst the mist dotting the skyline of the emerging city capital. The breeze is mild.

Every early riser has risen to catch a ride to their different destinations with different colours in different dresses, speaking different languages for different reasons and any other different thing you can think of.

Did, I say, an emerging city capital? Yes, Yenagoa is an emerging city capital. From here, the world will see great men of the arts – filmmakers, writers, photographers, videographers, musical artists and artists in the different medium of painting, drawing, sculpture, textile design, and graphic designers.

Oh! they exist here, in their countless numbers in the Bayelsa State capital, Yenagoa but they don’t need to go Lagos, Abuja or abroad to be showcased but right here, the world will come look for them and their works.

At this time of the morning, to get to your place of work before the person who pays you, is the most important thing; where you seat does not matter. On my ride, I took a peep into other rides along my route. I find almost every keke that rode pass has an extra passenger on the front seat with him.

Was the keke designed to carry more than three passengers?

So, for the rider and passenger when necessity calls, nothing really matters. Where I seat don’t matter, take me to my destination while the rider makes an extra cash to argument the ever-increasing pump price of fuel and meet his obligation to his boss. It’s a win-win situation.

Human traffick around Opolo junction is high at this time, now the keke rider is the ‘king’. He makes the choice for his last turn or bus-stop. The amount you paid is stated before you board the ride. He is not waiting for you to decide; in a split second, another passenger outsmarts you to get inside.

Just standing and watching the scenario makes me smile. The hustle and bustle is interesting in the freest manner. Some chic-chats with their friends as they walk the road; mother holding her three children crossing over and traders carrying their wares inside the Opolo market. For me, it is a beautiful sight.
No worries on their faces, knowing that God, the creator and sustainer of the earth will meet their needs.

So, the ride continues as every keke had full load, my eyes caught the billboards, signboards and adverts displayed from Opolo to Ekeki. There has been an increase of photo studios in this route followed by music studios into the production of sound, beats and songs. Yenagoa is blessed with strong sounds in music and the film industry is getting to take shape.

Tales of a Keke Passenger From Opolo to Ekeki by Victor Oroyi – Episode 3 | This Complaining Passenger

When necessity comes along, this budding stars will not just sit and fold their hands waiting for government to create the enabling environment, just like these keke passengers, that would take the risk and join the front seat against traffic safety to get to their destination, these creative minds will rise to take their destinies in their hands.

Nature is the best teacher.
