VeryDarkMan Speaks on Plane Fight
VeryDarkMan Speaks on Plane Fight after issuing a public apology over his involvement in a physical altercation aboard a commercial flight, a clash that has sparked nationwide debate and scrutiny.
Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, admitted he acted “really irresponsibly” during the confrontation, which occurred while passengers boarded a United Nigeria Airlines flight. The incident, captured by eyewitnesses and widely shared online, showed him and comedian Freedom “Mr. Jollof” Atsepoyi engaging in a heated scuffle that disrupted operations and led to their removal from the aircraft.
In a follow-up statement, VeryDarkMan acknowledged his misconduct, saying:
“I acted really irresponsibly, and I’m sorry. I can’t guarantee it won’t happen again, but it won’t happen on a plane, a bus, or in a public place.”
The statement has drawn mixed reactions from the public, with some applauding him for admitting fault, while others criticised the partial nature of the apology.
According to witnesses, the confrontation escalated from a verbal exchange linked to an existing online feud between the two personalities. Cabin crew members and fellow passengers intervened to separate the men before the flight crew directed their deboarding for safety concerns.
United Nigeria Airlines has since confirmed that both men were handed over to airport security for further questioning, while a formal report is expected to reach the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). Aviation stakeholders say the incident may attract sanctions, including possible flight bans, if authorities determine that their actions endangered passengers.
The altercation has also triggered online backlash, with many Nigerians calling for stricter enforcement of laws governing unruly behaviour on aircraft. Commentators argue that public figures must demonstrate restraint, especially in sensitive environments such as commercial flights.
Despite the apology, the saga continues to raise questions about celebrity conduct, online conflict spillovers, and the need for improved passenger safety enforcement across Nigerian airlines.
