PRESS RELEASE – We are Not Part of Any Protest, NLC, TUC Bayelsa Declares
Nigerian Labour Congress, Bayelsa State Chapter and the Trade Union Congress, Bayelsa State Chapter wish to inform all workers and the general public that the councils are not part of the planned nationwide protest purportedly holding from Thursday 1st of August, 2024.
We the Chairmen of the NLC, Comrade Barnabas Simon and TUC, Comrade Laye Julius Ph.D, hereby distance ourselves and the Councils from the planned action as no official communication has been received from the National Leadership of the Councils or any other relevant authority.
This clarification has become necessary as we have been inundated with calls and enquiries on the position of the councils regarding the planned protest.
While we are not against the planned action, we wish to state that it is the right of every citizen to express their grievances through protest within the ambit of the law.
Consequently, all workers are directed to go about their lawful duties and not be coerced to participate in the proposed protest.
Signed:
Comrade Barnabas Simon
Chairman NLC, Bayelsa Chapter
Comrade, Julius Laye PhD
Chairman TUC, Bayelsa Chapter
