Where is T.K.O.? The Waters of the Wild by Mozimo Amatare
Where is T.K.O.? The Waters of the Wild is a poem written by Mozimo Amatare, a member of the Association of Nigerian Authors, Bayelsa State chapter.
Where is T.K.O.?
We look here and there
Teetering to the left
To the right
To the left again
We are searching
Searching for the light
That outshone our darkness
The darkness that once Enveloped our clime
Clipping flights of doves
Holding back the dams
That shed our waters
Transversing the Delta
A terrain of warmth
And of the wild?
Who is T.K.O.?- We know him.
Is he not that man
That once strode astride In our waters
Welding the gates of the guns
When Odi was cascaded
In the dark of the night
At the thresholds of the millennium?
When Kaiama was mauled
And Boro’s Ghost shivered
Waving to the left,
To the right and
To the left again – distraught!
The marauders enveloped our dens
Their dane guns can only scratch our surfaces burnt down our huts and barns.
Our dried fish trays are scattered
Picketed by the sun
Dried, dented and drowned
Who is T.K.O.?
The T stands for his Tongue
A Sharp spittle
Spewed to stain the white of the oppressors
Talking truth to power
Tearing them down on their knees
Pleading for mercy
The K stands for his Knowledge
He is rich in the izon culture.
The Izon is his fortress
Telling the story of this people
Deep in the mysteries of Egbesu
The O stands for Ogori
The Ogori of Odi
From medieval times
With grips and grits
A man of supreme ascendancy
His hands are wide open wider than the Atlantic
Longer than the Nile
The Niger River bows in Obeisance
Who is T.K.O.?
