Women Empowerment: Commissioner Urges Beneficiaries To Maximize Starter Packs

The graduation ceremony of women in a 5-day Post-COVID-19 training and empowerment programme, which centered on tailoring and catering, was held today at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall, Yenagoa.

The training was organised by the National Centre for Women Development in collaboration with the office of the First Lady and the Bayelsa State Ministry of Women, Children Affairs, Empowerment and Social Development.

Wife of the Bayelsa State Governor, Her Excellency, Dr (Mrs) Gloria Diri presented starter packs to 45 Women who participated in the just-concluded post-Covd-19 training. Also, 95 women were given grants to start a small-scale business.

Women Affairs Commissioner, Mrs. Faith Opene, while speaking at the closing ceremony, urged beneficiaries to make good use of their starter packs to be self-reliant.

She hinted that “when you empower a woman you have empowered a nation,” and also tasked beneficiaries not to sell the equipment given them.

Director General of the National Centre for Women Development, Hon. (Dr) Asabe Vilita Bashir was represented by the Director, Department of Training and Development, Mrs. Ebi Emezue.

Mrs. Emezue appreciated Her Excellency, Dr. Mrs. Gloria Diri, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Mrs Faith Opene and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women Affairs, Ms. Ayi Helen Ujile for their support during the training.

She added that the National Centre for Women Development is committed to sensitizing and empowering Women with the needed skills that are appropriate to address the negative impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

She equally pleaded with beneficiaries to maximize the opportunity given them.
