Women Right Advocate, Oby Dike Seeks End To Extrajudicial Killings In Southeast

As insecurity continues to ravage the country, particularly the Southeast region, a women right advocate and the CEO Pacific International Schools Ltd, Oby Stephanie Dike Amaechi has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to withdraw troops from the region.

This is following reported cases of extrajudicial Killings in the Southeast which she said does not portray the country in good light especially in the scale of human right.

Oby Dike therefore urges the President to in the spirit of the democracy which the country celebrates engage in dialogue with secessionist agitators, adding that protest is a fundamental human rights.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Saturday, she insisted that protection of lives and property as well as guarding the citizens’ rights to ventilate their grouse is the cardinal pillar of democracy.

“It is heart-warming that our dear nation is marking the 22nd anniversary since the return of democracy in the country. This is undoubtedly a remarkable milestone for all citizens of our great land to cheer about.

“Sadly, glaring indices of palpable suspicion and deep sense of marginalization and alienation stares us at the face which is largely attributable to the unrest we currently experience in the Southeast region and indeed other parts of the country.

“While the wanton destruction of public facilities and attack on security formations are totally alien to Ndigbo, suffice to say that the deployment of troops in the region is not the solution.

“If this has achieved anything, it has rather exacerbated the precarious situations in the region, leading to the needless and extrajudicial execution of our young men. This is counterproductive and the President must as a matter of necessity withdraw troops from Ala Igbo” she said.

She further underlined that the gains of democracy will not be felt in an atmosphere where the people are in constant fear for their lives.

According to the CEO Pacific International Schools Ltd, as a mother she feels a deep pain whenever young people who ought to be the pillars of the country’s growth and development are felled unjustly.

She said the country can experience true peace again which it is known for only if the President can open a window for national discourse where a compromise will be reached with aggrieved citizens.

The Imo born mother of four therefore appealed to Igbo sons and daughters to maintain peace so that further destruction of infrastructure and attacks on security formations in the region will be brought to the barest minimum.
