World Marks Global Handwashing Day: Bayelsans Advised on Regular Hand Washing
Global Handwashing day is a day set aside to promote the campaign to motivate people around the world to improve their Handwashing habits.
Celebrated October 15, this year’s theme “Why are clean hands still important?” emphasizes the role of hand hygiene in preventing infections, sicknesses and diseases.
Here in Bayelsa, our correspondent who spoke to some residents and shop owners noted that while some engage in regular hand washing, others do not.
A businessman, Mr Tari Rogers said he has suffered from diarrhea in the past, hence engages in regular hand washing to prevent any reoccurrence.
However, another resident, Mr Martins Egbe said he does not wash his hands regularly except when he wants to eat or it is very needful.
Another resident, a trader in Akenfa Market, Mrs Edna Ebifegha noted that being in the market regularly does not give her time to wash her hands regularly but when she gets home, she ensures that she washes them before cooking.
Mrs Ebifegha urged the authorities in the market to provide water facilities to enable those at the market to wash their hands regularly.
A medical personnel, Dr Ime James who emphasized on regular Handwashing advised all residents to always wash their hands properly using soap and water as it is one of the most important and effective ways to prevent germs which causes sicknesses.
He also advised parents to help their children cultivate the habit of regular hand washing inorder to reduce illnesses and keep them healthy.
