2023 Elections: Let’s Work Towards Making Nigeria a Better Place, Says Female Lawyer

Nyanate Olabisi Fatoki, facilitator publicity of the NBA Women Forum Bayelsa Chapter spoke with our correspondent aftermath of the 2023 elections: saying let’s work towards making Nigeria a better place. Excerpts;

What are your views on the 2023 presidential election?

The election, this year was peaceful as compared to other years. Many people are not satisfied about the outcome of the elections but then we are looking at the way forward now we have a new president-elect, anybody that is aggrieved like they’ve rightly said should approach the court.

Self-help will not do anything for us at this point. We should think of the way forward, too much of hardship, currency issues, families are impoverished, so at this point, I don’t think we should be clamoring for any other thing than our survival. At this point, we want everything to come back to normal and we are hoping for the best out of this newly elected president.

Are you satisfied  with the proceeding during the elections?

Yes we must we might have our personal views about him but then let’s hope for the best.  I won’t in all totality say there was all compliance; I will not want to put blame on anybody here because it’s a growing system in democracy. We are trying to do is to improve on our e-voting and more participation in the electoral process.  People came out in mass despite the loss of hope in our leadership to vote their choices.

The compliance was not in all totality good but then we are growing.

What are your expectations for the next four years?

I think, there should be improvement on all these things now before the next election. Let’s not wait till last minute before training officials to use the equipment. Making people get used to this system so that when there is any event of rigging or any event of non-compliance it will be brought to the fore timelessly.

We won’t wait till after the election to be making our complaint known.  There should be enlightenment programs for the use of the electoral materials it should not be done within a short period of time.

What is your expectation from a Tinubu’s administration?

I’m a very positive person, so I will still insist, I am hoping for the best. Yes, I’m not in any position to judge anybody, the election has come and gone let’s work towards making Nigeria a better place.
