
Atissa Kingdom Rolls Out Drums, Cannons And Variety of Activities For King Igodo
~ Unveils Autobiography Book
The Council of Chiefs and people of Atissa Kingdom in Yenagoa, core host of the Bayelsa State capital, have set the drums and cannons, for a 9-day funeral in honour of their departed monarch, HRM (King) Godwin Gurosi Igodo.
Aged 91, King Igodo who was Ebenibe of Atissa Kingdom and erstwhile chairman, Traditional Rulers Council of Bayelsa State, died February 27 this year.
A statement made available to the press by publicist Enideneze Etete, citing chairman of the Central Planning Committee, His Highness (Dr.) Boma Spero-Jack, and Chairperson Publicity subcommittee, Dr. (Mrs.) Faith Izibenua Zibs-Godwin, said the funeral will begin November 24 and end on December 2, 2025.
According to the statement, the funeral commences with a night of tributes and lighting of candles on Monday, November 24, at the King’s Palace.
It adds that the King’s autobiographical book will be presented to the public on Tuesday, November 25, in Goodluck Jonathan Hall, Azaiki Public Library along Imgbi Road, Amarata-Epie, from mid-day.
Titled, “The Bridge Builder: Memoirs of My Life and Kingship, the presentation of the autobiography, will be chaired by Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (Rtd), former deputy governor of Bayelsa State.
The statement further states that Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, Secretary to Bayelsa State Government, is Chief Special Guest of Honour, and King Bubaraye Dakolo, Chairman, Bayelsa State Council of Traditional Rulers will be Royal Father of the Day, among other guests.
“Prof. Steve Sinikiem Azaiki will review the book, while Chairman of Yenagoa Local Government Council, Hon. Bulodiseye Ndiwari is the Chief Host”, the committee further stated.
It says the funeral service and reception will take place at Obogoro School Field on Friday, November 28, 2025, with Interment same day at the Ebenibe’s palace. “This will be preceded by a cultural day on Wednesday, November 26, at Oxbow Lake, and a service of songs, Thursday, November 27 at Gabriel Okara Cultural Center”, the statement indicated.
“Other activities are in-laws’ day, on Saturday, November 29; thanksgiving service, St. John’s Anglican Church, Obogoro, and the final rites (Beletiomo) comes up Tuesday, December 2 at Obogoro Waterfront”, the organizers stated.
