Awkward Moments – A Poem by Victor Oroyi
Awkward Moments – A Poem by Victor Oroyi explores the silent battles of conscience that unfold when no one is watching. With striking imagery and deep moral reflection, the poem examines temptation, compromised values, and personal accountability, reminding readers that character is ultimately revealed not in public applause, but in private choices.
Faced with reality,
when morals are tested
in dark rooms,
window blinds drawn—
when friends and mentees
are nowhere in sight,
and silence
covers what we become.
Moments when desire
rushes like wildfire,
unchecked,
unanswered—
far away, in a quiet closet,
where no familiar eyes
can question our hands,
or steady our thoughts.
Our wives and loved ones
distant from the moment,
their absence loud
in what we allow.
We trade our values
for a loaf—
for something small,
something passing.
And in that brief heat,
we burn—
not from the fire itself,
but from what we chose
to feed it with.
Awkward moments—
not loud,
not seen—
but waiting,
to name us
for who we are
when no one is watching.
