By Jonah Fubara, YENAGOA –Â An 18-year-old suspected armed robber has been arrested in Amarata, Yenagoa, after residents reportedly helped operatives of the Bayelsa State Vigilante Security Service apprehend him, with a locally made pistol recovered during the operation.
The suspect, identified as Frank Emmanuel and said to be from Abia State, was arrested at about 8:50 a.m. in the St. Mathias area of Amarata following allegations that he had been robbing pedestrians along the route.
Residents alleged that the suspect had carried out several robbery operations in broad daylight, targeting unsuspecting passersby and creating security concerns among people who use the area.
They further claimed that he usually operated alone but sometimes worked with other suspected gang members.
The suspect was also reported to have confessed to being a member of the Greenlanders cult group. The allegation has yet to be independently verified.
The Chairman of the Bayelsa State Vigilante Security Service, Hon. Doubiye Alagba, who personally led the operation, commended residents for assisting in the arrest.
Alagba urged members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security operatives by promptly reporting suspicious movements and suspected criminal activities.
He stressed that community participation was essential to preventing crime, protecting lives and property, and strengthening security across the state.
The suspect has been handed over to Operation DOO-AKPO of the Nigeria Police Force, Bayelsa State Command, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The police investigation is expected to establish the circumstances of the alleged robberies and determine any links the suspect may have to other criminal activities.
