Be Patient, Government is Working Hard to Restore Power, Bayelsa Information Commissioner

The Bayelsa State government has urged residents of Yenagoa, the state capital to be patient as they are working hard to ensure that power is restored.

Commissioner for Information, Mrs Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai came out with this while speaking during a live interview saying the government would not rest until they do all that is necessary to ensure that residents have light in their homes and business places.

“We have been doing repairs for over four months now, we are all suffering this power situation, you may think it’s not all of us, this is because some are fixing solar in their homes, monies they would have used for other things, we should be patient and be hopeful”

Mrs Koku-Obiyai reiterated the government’s commitment to ensure that power is restored as government officials are currently visiting the areas to check the level of work done in the transmission towers and hopefully there would be light by the first week of December, 2024.

However, she also called on residents and people in the communities to protect government facilities to prevent a repeat of the incident.

“We don’t want continuous vandalization, we need to stop vandalizing power facilities and there’s a need to involve the communities”

While speaking on the minimum wage, she assured civil servants including the local government workers and teachers in the state that the state government has the interest of workers hence they would ensure that salaries would be paid and adjustments would be made and paid as arrears.
