Beatrice Eyong Seeks Media Partnership to Promote Gender Equality

Beatrice Eyong, United Nations Women Representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS, UN Women, seeks media organizations partnership to promote gender equality and end to violence against women and girls.

Mrs Eyong disclosed this at the UN Nigeria Media Partners Conference 2023 held recently in Abuja, which was organized as part of the UN Women Nigeria’s activities to mark the 202316 days of Activism.

Speaking on the theme, “Escalating media action for women’s empowerment, ending violence against women and girls,”
Mrs Eyong informed that the negative impact of gender inequality and gender-based violence on society, including poverty and underdevelopment cannot be over emphasized.

Also speaking, Mr. Lansana Wonneh, United Nations Deputy Women’s Representative for Nigeria, noted that they recognize the role of journalists as important partners in advancing the cause of gender inequality and empowerment in Nigeria adding that media practitioners should be unbiased when reporting gender-based issues.

Mrs. Aisha Ibrahim, the National Chairperson of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), lauded the organizers for the great feat, while calling for support to end violence against women and girls.

Lady Eunice Nnachi, CEO of Eunice Nnachi Women Advocacy Foundation, ENWAF who was one of the participants expressed gratitude to UN Women for organizing an event dedicated to media partners in the fight against violence against women.

Nnachi further called on citizens to show how much they care about ending violence against women and girls, by sharing the actions they are taking to create a world free from violence toward women.
