Civil Society Groups in Edo Protest Against Govt’s Directives on COVID-19

Civil Society Organizations and groups in Edo State have staged a protest against the state governments directive on compulsory COVID-19 vaccination by residents before they can access any large gathering.

You would recall that last week, Governor Godwin Obaseki had at a news briefing named such gathering to include church services, mosques, wedding receptions, banks and burial ceremonies.

Governor Obaseki noted that such gatherings would no longer be accessible without proof of COVID-19 vaccination as the third wave of the disease is causing devastating effects and death across the country hence the need to introduce stiffer measures to curtail its effect.

However, the protesters and Civil society groups in the state who marched through Benin city, the state capital carrying various placards said the directive by the government is trampling on the fundamental rights of the people.
