Diri Recounts His Relationship with Senator Dickson in Sampou

Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State today recounts his relationship with the Senator representing Bayelsa West and former Governor, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, in his country home, Sampou.

Diri recalled that, Dickson has been a long time friend even before the creation of Bayelsa State when they were into Ijaw activism, insisting that he values and enjoys the smooth relationship they both share.

“Myself and Dickson have known each other for long even before the creation of Bayelsa State. We have been in Ijaw activism in Port Harcourt down to serving other administrations.

Like he rightly mentioned, it is only one government that we did not serve in this state and as God would have it we never knew that he would become the governor but because that was his destiny, he became the governor.

The kind of relationship we share, is valued by both of us. I recalled in Toru-Orua, we were looking for who to contest the House of Reps for our party right there in his office, while I was busy looking for the right person outside he (Dickson) finally decided that those around him have pointed to my direction to represent Yenagoa/Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency.

That was how we started the journey and in the National Assembly our intention was initially the Senate but being the political strategist that he is, he told me that the powers that be then would be an obstacle, so the House of Reps was the best option at that time.

I decided to go down this memory lane because a lot of things are happening just to underscore the relationship that I have enjoyed with my brother, friend, compatriots and leader down to the senate and now governor.”
