Fubara Presents Staff of Office to New Opobo Monarch, King Charles Macpepple Jaja
By Mercy Tula, SOUTH SOUTH DESK –Â Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has formally recognised King Charles Macpepple Jaja, Jeki VI, as the Amanyabo of Opobo, presenting him with a certificate of recognition and staff of office as a first-class traditional ruler.
The presentation marked the formal completion of the process for the emergence of the new monarch following the death and burial of the late King Douglas Jaja, Jeki V, and the subsequent selection and coronation of his successor.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Governor Fubara said the conferment of the staff of office represented the conclusion of the statutory process required to formally recognise the new Amanyabo.
The governor noted that the process had followed the transition occasioned by the death of the late monarch, after which the appropriate traditional and institutional procedures were undertaken to select and install his successor.
With the presentation, King Charles Macpepple Jaja, Jeki VI, assumes formal recognition as a first-class traditional ruler in Rivers State and Amanyabo of Opobo.
The recognition is expected to further strengthen the traditional institution in Opobo and provide a formal framework for the monarch’s engagement with the state government and other institutions on matters concerning the development and welfare of his people.
