Gloria Diri Commends BYSACA for Rehabilitating The Agency
Wife of the Bayelsa state government, Dr Gloria Diri has commended the Acting Director General of the Bayelsa State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS, BYSACA, Dr Azebi for her dedication, hardwork and commitment in rehabilitating the agency.
Dr. Gloria Diri stated this during the maiden edition of the HIV Media Advocacy Workshop held in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital.
She equally appreciated staff of the agency for working effectively with Dr Azebi to carry out their duties to achieve a zero tolerance for the disease in the state.
She emphasized that the state government would continue to support the agency as she intends to use her good office to ensure that BYSACA is never redundant.
While reacting to reports saying more girls are being infected with the disease, she gave assurance that girls would be empowered as she is passionate about the welfare of the girl child.
Also speaking, the National Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS, NACA, Dr Gambo Aliyu represented by Dr. Effiong Eno called on the Bayelsa state government to provide all the needed materials and funds for BYSACA to drive the HIV response in the state.
On his part, House Committee Chairman on Health, Bayelsa state, Dr. Godbless Oyinke said there has been a decline in sensitization on HIV hence the need to engage media persons to use their various mediums to spread the message particularly the social media which has a wider reach for young persons.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Pabara Igwele said NACA should work in synergy with all the state agencies to achieve an eradication of HIV/AIDS in the country.
He noted that the state government should empower Dr Azebi by enforcing the laws that created the agency to allow her operate fully as the Director General of the agency.
The South south Media Advocacy Capacity Building workshop being hosted in Bayelsa state is set to train media personnel from all states in the Niger Delta on advocacy issues and proper reportage on HIV AIDS.
