
Historic Milestone as Bayelsa State Polytechnic Aleibiri Holds Maiden Combined Convocation
By Jonah Tula – Douye Diri, governor of Bayelsa State has described the maiden combined convocation ceremony of Bayelsa State Polytechnic Aleibiri as a historic milestone in the advancement of technical and vocational education in Bayelsa State.
Speaking at the ceremony held in Aleibiri, Ekeremor Local Government Area, Governor Diri noted that the institution, established in 2014 and which commenced academic activities during the 2019/2020 academic session, was created in line with the global shift towards science, technical and vocational education aimed at equipping students with practical and entrepreneurial skills.
The governor expressed satisfaction with the formal relocation of the Polytechnic to its original site in Aleibiri town and commended the institution for securing full and interim accreditation approvals for all programmes presented before the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
He congratulated the Governing Council, management, academic and non-academic staff, as well as students of the institution for what he described as a remarkable success story. Governor Diri also celebrated the 413 graduands who were awarded National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) certificates, stating that they had been found worthy in character and learning.
According to him, the Bayelsa State Government will continue to invest in the infrastructural development of the institution to ensure it achieves its core objectives. He acknowledged the contributions of Tetfund, other intervention agencies and the host community towards the growth of the Polytechnic.
Governor Diri further disclosed that he had directed relevant ministries and agencies to implement several commitments made to the institution, including the provision of two coaster buses, perimeter fencing of the Polytechnic, additional classrooms and other essential facilities.
The governor also commended the Rector, Dr. Wisdom Clinton Soreh, for his dedication and steadfastness in pioneering the growth and development of the institution, describing the convocation ceremony as a testament to collective hard work and commitment to educational excellence in Bayelsa State.
