HIV/AIDS – Agency seeks support from traditional rulers in Bayelsa

The Bayelsa State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS, BYSACA has called for the support of traditional rulers to enable it carry out sensitization programs inorder to reduce the spread of HIV in rural communities.

Permanent Secretary of BYSACA, Dr Oluwatoyin Azebi made the call during a courtesy visit to traditional rulers council saying it has become an issue of urgency to create more awareness in communities as there is a high prevalence of the disease in the state.

Dr Azebi noted that HIV prevalence is higher in Nembe Brass and Ogbia local government areas hence people living in those areas need more HIV testing and counseling services.

She urged the traditional rulers to collaborate with the agency for increased community outreach.
