Ijaw Youth Council Endorses Governor Fubara For Second Term Ahead Of 2027 Election
The Ijaw Youth Council, IYC Worldwide on Sunday, January 4, 2026, formally declared its support for Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, as its preferred candidate in the 2027 governorship election.
The endorsement was announced in a statement signed by the Council’s President, Dr Alaye Tari Theophilus, who said the decision followed extensive consultations across the Ijaw nation and a careful assessment of Rivers State’s political direction and development priorities.
According to Dr Theophilus, the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide has thrown its full weight behind Governor Fubara, describing its support as total, unwavering and unequivocal, while formally endorsing him for a second term in office in the 2027 general elections.
He stated that the Council does not recognise or align with any political arrangements or agreements allegedly promoted by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, or his associates, which it believes are aimed at undermining the authority and constitutional mandate of the Rivers State governor.
“On behalf of over 30 million Ijaw youths across the Niger Delta, we hereby formally and unanimously endorse Governor Siminalayi Fubara for a second term in 2027,” Dr Theophilus said, adding that continuity in governance is essential for sustaining peace, unity and development in Rivers State.
He further reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to justice, equity and democratic values, stressing that respect for the will of the Rivers people and non-interference in the affairs of the state are critical if the Federal Government and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress seek the support of the Ijaw nation in 2027.
The Council also noted that despite ongoing political distractions and what it described as unwarranted interference, Governor Fubara has remained calm, focused and committed to delivering effective governance for the people of Rivers State.
