IYAMIDR Nigeria Rates Gov. Diri High on Transformative Leadership, Security
…Says Bayelsa Governor Is a Silent Achiever
A non-governmental organisation, IYAMIDR Nigeria, has rated Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, highly in the areas of transformative leadership, security, and human capital development.
According to IYAMIDR Nigeria, the rating of Governor Douye Diri was arrived at after a firsthand assessment tour of the state. The organisation described Senator Diri as engaging in “extraordinary, people-centric leadership” that is quietly changing the face of Bayelsa State.
IYAMIDR Nigeria, a development and advocacy organisation, stated that it does not issue statements merely for the sake of praise.
“We do not speak for praising’s sake. We speak because we have walked the roads, entered the communities, and listened to the people. When development is real, it must be amplified. When leadership is courageous, it must be documented for history.”
The organisation stated this in a statement issued by its Executive Director, Solomon Okoduwa, and made available to newsmen via electronic mail. It noted that the delegation was received and conducted around the state by Apostle Alfred Uyinosa, a man widely known in Benin City for objective criticism and truth-telling, and who currently leads the civic team, ‘Go and Verify for Bayelsa State.’
According to the group: “What we saw on the ground was not propaganda. It was development with a human face.
Road Infrastructure That Restores Dignity: Roads that previously ended in bushes have been fully tarred into dual carriageways, with solar-powered streetlights, walkways, and integrated security cameras. At night, in Swali, Ekeki, and Igbogene, market women now close their businesses late without fear.
Students now walk home under streetlights. The standard, in our assessment, rivals what we see in parts of Europe, but more importantly, it restores safety and saves time for ordinary families.
Human Capital Development: We visited the Bayelsa State Institute of Vocational Training, where young people are being equipped with skills that will keep them away from risky migration and idleness. We were also shown the newly built standard Commissioners’ Quarters and Legislative Quarters, a clear indication that this administration is investing in the dignity and efficiency of governance institutions.
Security and Health Innovation for Riverine Communities: During our interactions, we were informed, and we found it credible, that the administration has procured drones for the delivery of drugs to riverine communities. For a mother in Oporoma whose child needs emergency medication, or a health worker in Southern Ijaw cut off by the tide, this is not just a headline—it is life. It is governance reaching places where boats struggle to access.
Quiet Progress in Health and Education: Across impromptu conversations with teachers, nurses, tricycle riders, and civil servants whom we had never met before, one refrain was consistent: ‘He is ahead of many other states in health, education, and infrastructure, yet he is not making noise about it.’ That silence is political. In a season where many shout, this administration is building.
A Governor Focused on the Future, Not the Camera: When we got to our hotel, we asked ourselves: ‘Who is this governor?’ The answers we received were inspiring and emotional.
Bayelsa has a leader who understands that true politics is service—a leader with focus, foresight, and courage. A leader building for the next generation, not just for the next election cycle. In political terms, this is the difference between motion and movement; between noise and legacy.”
Apostle Alfred Uyinosa, who accompanied the delegation on the tour, added:
“I do not praise for praise’s sake. What is on the ground in Bayelsa today deserves to be told.
We have monitored governance across several states. What we saw in Bayelsa is intentional and strategic. Roads that connect people, not just places; skills that create jobs, not just certificates; health solutions that cross rivers, not just press releases; and security infrastructure that gives citizens back their night.
This is the kind of leadership Nigeria needs if we must reduce the desperation that drives our youths into dangerous migration. We are not here to applaud politics. We are here to document what works so that other states can emulate it. Bayelsa is showing that governance can be quiet, focused, and effective at the same time.”
The organisation concluded by offering prayers for the governor.
“IYAMIDR Nigeria prays for Governor Douye Diri. We pray that God Almighty grants him wisdom, strength, and protection to complete all the good work he has started.
We urge him to stay the course. The people of Bayelsa deserve to live to see and testify that a governor came with vigour, determination, and courage, and changed the fortunes of Bayelsa State.
This is not the politics of noise. This is the politics of record. This is the politics of hope.”
