IYC Spokesman, Berefa Reiterates Call for Redefining Ijaw People’s Image

The National Spokesman of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC Worldwide, Comrade Bedford Berefa has reiterated the call for redefining the image of the Ijaw people.

Comrade Berefa made the call during a courtesy visit to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Bayelsa Police Command, ASP Musa Mohammed in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

He noted that Bayelsa State as the headquarters of the Ijaw nation is peaceful but over the years, only issues of criminality are being reported about the state which has caused a negative stereotype on the Ijaw people in the entire Niger Delta region.

The IYC Spokesman said the essence of the visit was to seek partnership and collaboration with the office of the Police Public Relations inorder to change the negative reports of the Ijaw nation through information management.

” Our people are only known for kidnapping, hostage taking, cultism and violence, this has to stop, we are not like that. It is very important for us to give our region a positive image”

Comrade Berefa commended the PPRO for his efforts in curbing criminality and ensuring peace in the state while also calling for an enforcement of the mandate to stop bush burning in Yenagoa.

In his response, ASP Musa Mohammed appreciated the government and people of Bayelsa State for their peaceful disposition saying he is prepared to work with stakeholders such as the IYC to give the state a positive image and improve the level of security.

” We handle and manage information such that we do not have people misinterpret public information.
There is no crime free society but we need to find a way to manage it, we can also resolve crisis amicably”.

ASP Mohammed gave assurance that the Police Command is working ceaselessly to protect lives and properties.
