NAPTIP Bayelsa Takes Anti-Trafficking Campaign To Azikoro Community
The Bayelsa State Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has taken its sensitisation campaign against human trafficking, child abuse and gender-based violence to Azikoro Town, along the NDDC Road in Yenagoa Local Government Area.
The outreach was aimed at educating residents on the dangers, consequences and early warning signs of human trafficking and related offences, while encouraging community participation in prevention and reporting.
The State Commander, Mrs. Ngozi Opara, was represented at the event by the Head of the Public Enlightenment Unit, Mr. Sambo Wariebi, who stressed that community awareness remains a critical tool in combating trafficking in persons.
Mr. Wariebi urged residents to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspected cases of human trafficking, child abuse or gender-based violence to the NAPTIP Bayelsa State Command, either by visiting the Command or through the agency’s official communication channels.
According to him, timely information from the public would enable the agency to intervene early, rescue victims and bring perpetrators to justice.
As part of the sensitisation exercise, the NAPTIP team distributed Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials to further enhance public understanding and reinforce key messages on prevention and reporting.
Residents of Azikoro Town commended the agency for the initiative and expressed their readiness to support NAPTIP’s mandate by reporting suspicious activities within their community.
The campaign featured interactive sessions with community members, as well as pictorial highlights capturing key moments of the sensitisation exercise.
