NAPTIP, DSS Deepen Synergy Against Human Trafficking in Bayelsa
By Our Correspondent – The Bayelsa State Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has intensified efforts to combat human trafficking through renewed collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS) in the state.
During a courtesy visit on April 14, 2026, the NAPTIP delegation, led by State Commander Mrs. Ngozi Opara, met with the State Director of the DSS, Mr. Eze, at the DSS headquarters in Bayelsa. The visit was aimed at strengthening existing ties between both agencies in tackling the menace of human trafficking.
Speaking during the meeting, Mrs. Opara expressed appreciation to the DSS for its continued support, particularly in intelligence gathering and the referral of trafficking-related cases to NAPTIP. She emphasized the importance of sustained inter-agency cooperation, noting that the fight against human trafficking cannot be won in isolation.
“The collaboration between NAPTIP and DSS has been instrumental in our operations, and we must continue to build on this synergy to effectively curb human trafficking in our society,” she stated.
In his response, the DSS State Director, Mr. Eze, commended the NAPTIP Commander and her team for the visit and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to the partnership. He assured that under his leadership, the DSS would continue to provide necessary support to NAPTIP, including the provision of operational vehicles when required.
The visit featured symbolic activities, including the issuance of red cards to human traffickers, the presentation of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials by NAPTIP, and a group photograph session to mark the occasion.
The renewed partnership underscores a shared determination by both agencies to strengthen the fight against human trafficking and enhance security collaboration within Bayelsa State.
