NBA President Calls For Justice System That Serves All Nigerians
By Dim Oba, LAGOS – President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, has called for renewed commitment to making justice not merely an ideal but an experience accessible to all Nigerians.
Badejo-Okusanya made the call as she joined the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Olanrewaju Alogba, members of the Lagos State Judiciary and other legal practitioners at the 2026/2027 New Legal Year Thanksgiving Service in Lagos.
She said the commencement of a new legal year provided an opportunity for the institutions of justice to reflect on their responsibilities and renew their commitment to the pursuit of justice, protection of rights and strengthening public confidence in the rule of law.
According to her, the Bar and the Bench have an enduring relationship and a shared responsibility to promote a justice system that is accessible, effective and responsive to the needs of those it serves.
The NBA president said the occasion also offered legal practitioners an opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, reflect on the year ahead and consider the work that lies before the profession and the wider justice sector.
“As we begin a new legal year, may we continue to serve with integrity, uphold the law with courage, and work towards making justice not merely an ideal, but an experience accessible to all,” she said.
The thanksgiving service marked the commencement of the 2026/2027 legal year in Lagos and brought together stakeholders in the justice sector for reflection and thanksgiving.
