PC-NCG Boss Denies Coast Guard Establishment, Blasts Online Fake News

The Executive and Accounting Officer of the Provisionary Committee of the proposed Nigerian Coast Guard (PC-NCG), Captain Noah Ichaba has dismissed reports of the Coast Guard’s establishment and a Commodore’s appointment as Commander as “false and misleading”.

In a statement issued by the Director of Communications & Public Affairs, Dr. Piriye Kiyaramo in Abuja on Thursday, Captain Ichaba attributed the twisted misleading and inaccurate
online publication that threw interested parties into deeper obscurity as unfortunate, just as he warned against fake news peddlers, informing that the Coast Guard Bill was awaiting due action and that no official appointments have been made.

“The PC-NCG is very optimistic that the Nigerian Coast Guard Establishment Bill will, against visible and invisible odds, witness expected outcome in line with the essence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” for 2023-2027 which is aimed at driving economic growth, revenue generation, job opportunities, bolstering security, improving citizens’ livelihood and hitting a target of $1 trillion economy by 2030.

“All in all, or by and large, the inevitability here is that a recognized stand-alone maritime security agency is fundamental, non-negotiable enabler to Nigerian maritime economic stability, supply chain resilience and corporate risk management, whether directly or indirectly.

“Coast Guard is to protect the flow of raw materials, manufactured goods, consumer products and will constitute the security backbone of Nigeria’s sea trade, as a business without security is an unsecured business, highly vulnerable, economically unviable and high rate illegality driven.

“On that note, PC-NCG wishes to restate that concerned stakeholders should remain united, focused and undoubting by shunning any form of distracting news. The said story misreported the news as the real information was taken out of context and unnecessarily magnified, hence, generated anxieties among prospective and potential workforces of the proposed Nigerian Coast Guard,” Captain Ichaba maintained.
