Peter Obi Slams FG Over “Now Disgraced Nation” Status in Viral Facebook Post — the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections has expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s growing insecurity and political instability, declaring that the nation is “now disgraced” following a series of violent attacks and alleged government-sponsored divisions across political parties.
In a strongly worded statement shared on his official Facebook page, Obi said the recent killings, kidnappings, and terror attacks across the country validate former U.S. President Donald Trump’s earlier remarks describing Nigeria as “now disgraced.” Obi noted that within one week, 25 people were kidnapped, a general and several officers were killed, and another violent attack struck Kwara State — events he says reflect a nation in crisis.
According to him, rather than uniting to confront insecurity, political leaders have become consumed with internal wars, party battles, and unnecessary distractions. He accused the current administration of deliberately instigating chaos within the PDP, Labour Party, SDP, and other political platforms in an attempt to weaken opposition voices.
Obi recalled how former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua handled similar tensions with maturity and patriotism. He stated that during a crisis in his former political party, Yar’Adua instructed then-INEC Chairman, Prof. Maurice Iwu, to ensure that every political party—whether ruling or opposition—remained stable and functional for the sake of democracy.
The former governor lamented that the situation today is the complete opposite, alleging that the federal government is more focused on fragmenting political parties than strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions. He stressed that true democracy respects opposition, upholds free and fair elections, and carries every stakeholder along to foster national peace and prosperity.
Obi ended his message with optimism, insisting that despite the turmoil, “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
The post has sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians echoing his concerns over insecurity, governance, and the future of democratic institutions in the country.
