
Prioritise The Education of Girl Child, Women Affairs Minister Charges Workshop Participants
Participants at the South South Pre-Council Zonal Workshop of the 25th National Council Meeting on Women Affairs have been told to prioritise discussion on the education of the girl child, inorder to achieve the mandate and collective goals of the Ministry.
The Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Sulaiman Ibrahim made this call while speaking at the South South Pre-Council Zonal Workshop held at the Golden Tulip hotel Yenagoa.
The Minister said the education of the girl child must continue to receive priority as that is the only panecia to addressing societal issues that affect women and children.
Hajiya Ibrahim who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs Regina Osagie pointed out that participants must centralise discussion on education, health and social investment in the girl child as they are essential pillars in the development of women and children.
Delivering a lecture on the Presidential Priority and Focus area of the Ministry, the guest lecturer, Mrs. Reginald Osagie, explained that improved livelihood, food security and empowerment of women and children are thematic areas in the ministry.
She highlighted the need for a robust engagement of women and children by all line ministries to ensure that ministries deliver on their mandate.
In her opening remark, the Permanent Secretary in the Bayelsa State Ministry of Women, Children Affairs Empowerment and Social Development, Agnes Oloye, charged participants to have an open mind to deliberate on key issues, share experiences and develop strategies to promote women empowerment in our various regions.
She urged participants to come up with policies that government resources can support for women empowerment and children education.
Participants at the workshop were drawn from the Federal Capital Territory, Edo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Cross Rivers States.
