Rivers Indigenes Joins Diri’s ‘Thank You’ Tour Finale
The Federated Union of Rivers Indigenes in Bayelsa State (FURIBS) joined other dignitaries and supporters today at the grand finale of Governor Douye Diri’s “Thank You” tour, held at the iconic Ox-Bow Lake Pavilion in Yenagoa.
Led by its President, Chief Barisuka Prince Beteh, the Rivers community turned out in full force to participate in the colourful celebration, lending their voice and presence to an event that drew political heavyweights and well-meaning citizens from within and beyond the Yenagoa Local Government Area.
The “Thank You” tour, which has taken the governor across all eight local government areas in the state, was designed to personally appreciate the people of Bayelsa for their unwavering support during the November 2023 governorship election, which saw Diri return to office for a second term.
Today’s event was the culmination of weeks of engagement across the state and took on a festive atmosphere. Traditional music, cultural dances, and cheers from the crowd added colour and excitement to the occasion, celebrating not just electoral victory, but also achievements in governance.
In his address, Governor Diri reflected on the strides his administration has made, especially in Yenagoa. He highlighted the completion of critical infrastructure projects, including strategic roads and bridges, improved healthcare delivery, and enhanced education services. According to the governor, these developments reflect his administration’s commitment to building a more connected and progressive Bayelsa.
The Rivers delegation was accompanied by key government functionaries, including Hon. Madapuye Felix Dokubo and Hon. Ozims F. Ozim, both Senior Special Assistants to the Governor on Special Duties. The presence of FURIBS executives and other respected individuals underscored the solidarity and unity of purpose among the diverse ethnic groups that make up Bayelsa’s social fabric.
