Senate Confirms General Christopher Musa As Minister Of Defence
The Senate has confirmed General Christopher Musa as Minister of Defence, approving the former Chief of Defence Staff after an intense screening session on Wednesday.
During the plenary, lawmakers subjected the retired military chief to thorough questioning on national security, defence reforms, counter-terrorism strategy, and military welfare. The confirmation was eventually sealed through a voice vote, with a majority of senators backing his nomination.
Gen. Musa, who retired just 40 days ago, was nominated by President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday. His name was transmitted to the Senate the same day, signaling the administration’s urgency in strengthening leadership within the defence sector.
In his responses, Musa pledged to prioritise improved intelligence gathering, better inter-agency coordination, and enhanced troop welfare. He assured the Senate that he would bring his decades of frontline experience to bear in tackling insurgency, banditry, and emerging national security threats.
With his confirmation, Gen. Musa is expected to immediately assume duties at the Defence Ministry, where he will play a central role in shaping Nigeria’s security strategy under President Tinubu’s administration.
