MOSIEND Commend Tinubu For Nominating General Musa As Minister Of Defense
The leadership of the Movement for the Survival of the Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND), has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the nomination of General Christopher Gwabin Musa, as Minister of Defence.
The Niger Delta group described the move as a timely and thoughtful response to the concerns of ordinary Nigerians about the country’s security direction.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt, the National President of MOSIEND, Dr. Kennedy Tonjo West, said the President’s decision shows readiness to heed public sentiment at a moment when citizens are increasingly anxious about insecurity and the uneven progress toward national stability.
Dr. West noted that General Musa is widely regarded as a disciplined and level-headed officer with a calm but firm grasp of Nigeria’s security complexities, having served as Chief of Defence Staff with a reputation for professionalism, balance and fairness.
According to MOSIEND, the nomination presents a fresh opportunity to strengthen ongoing security sector reforms, especially in areas such as trust-building, inter-agency cooperation and civil-military relations. The group stressed that Nigerians are looking for a Defence Ministry that is more strategic, more responsive and more attuned to the social and economic pressures that often drive unrest across different regions.
MOSIEND further urged the incoming minister to pay close attention to dialogue and engagement in the Niger Delta, noting that many of the region’s security concerns are rooted in longstanding grievances that require patient, consistent and sincere interaction.
The group expressed confidence that General Musa’s experience and temperament will help stabilise the region and create a more predictable atmosphere for communities, investors and development partners.
The statement also called on Nigerians to support the administration’s efforts, emphasising that the task of securing the nation demands collective responsibility, transparency and a willingness to rise above partisan divisions.
“At a time when the country needs steady hands and clear thinking, this nomination sends a reassuring signal,” MOSIEND stated.
