Soludo: Patronising Made-in-Nigeria Products Can Create 10 Million Jobs
By Tams Jonah, ABUJA – Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has said Nigerians could generate more than 10 million jobs by embracing locally made products, urging citizens to eat and wear what the country produces.
Soludo made the call at the opening ceremony of the Nigeria Economic Summit in Abuja, where he highlighted the economic benefits of supporting indigenous industries and local manufacturers.
Citing the Akwete textile industry as an example, the governor said his decision to adopt Akwete fabric as his official uniform had increased income for women involved in its production and created employment opportunities for thousands.
“I am wearing ‘Akwete’, the women of Akwete, since I made it my uniform…income has gone up; more thousands of them have been employed,” he said.
The governor argued that increased patronage of locally produced goods could stimulate domestic manufacturing, expand markets for local entrepreneurs and create millions of jobs across the country.
“If we all eat and wear what we produce in this country, we will create more than 10 million jobs,” Soludo said.
His remarks place local content patronage at the centre of efforts to boost employment, empower indigenous producers and strengthen Nigeria’s productive economy.
