Sowore Meets Adeboye, Recalls 1996 Encounter
By Dim Oba, LAGOS – African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has recounted his meeting with the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, during the church’s National Thanksgiving Service at its headquarters in Ebute Metta, Lagos.
Sowore said he attended the service on invitation alongside the National Chairman of the AAC, Pastor Samuel Ajeigbe.
According to him, he had a private meeting and conversation with Adeboye after the service, during which the RCCG General Overseer offered to pray for him.
Sowore said Adeboye told him that he had been following his activities closely and expressed confidence that his path was honourable and that he would triumph.
The AAC chieftain described the encounter as significant, noting that it was his second meeting with Adeboye at the same venue, 30 years after their first encounter.
Sowore recalled that their first meeting took place in 1996, shortly after he completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
He said he met Adeboye at the time while mobilising young people against campus cultism and the activities of cult gangs.
“Thirty years later, we met again at the same place,” Sowore said.
He expressed appreciation for the warm reception he received from members of the church, as well as his private conversation with Adeboye and the prayers offered for him.
Sowore, however, clarified that his attendance at the thanksgiving service was not intended to promote a political agenda.
