Speak Up Against Violence, Bekeowei Calls on Women
Mrs Mary Accra Bekeowei, executive director of Starrz Initiative, a non-governmental organization calls on women to speak up against violence within and around their environment adding that many women have lost their lives due to silence over violence meted on them.
Speaking during the event, Executive Director, Starrz Initiative, Mrs Mary Accra Bekeowei who gave an opening remark on the significance of the activism noted that women all over the world are facing various forms of violence hence the need to take proactive measures to end violence against women.
The 16 days of Activism commemorated every year is aimed at increasing awareness for the elimination of Gender Based Violence in society, Starrz Initiative in collaboration with Carlrose Education Foundation organized a sensitization program for women of Opolo community.
“Many women are suffering in their homes, they should learn to speak out and not die in silence, women should also protect their female children from molestations”
On her part, Team Lead, Connected Development, CODE Mrs Tari Amananagha explained that woman go various forms of violence such as psychological, emotional, physical and gender based violence which affects their health and wellbeing.
She called on women to always report cases of violence against them or their children to the appropriate authorities to reduce violence against women.
Public Relations Officer, Starrz Initiative, Mrs Jane Izon who spoke on the theme of the 16 days of Activism urged women to be peaceful and support each other as the progress of one woman represents the progress of all women.
Starrz Initiative conducted free blood pressure and sugar level test for the women in Opolo market.
