Spreading Even Distribution of Government Projects or Amenities in Bayelsa
Solomon Olali-Igabo, a public analysts and commentator writes on Spreading Even Distribution of Government Projects or Amenities in Bayelsa.
The preamble of the constitution of the United States of America declares that God has created all men equal. This statement, however, has sometimes been challenged. Obviously people are not equal in attractiveness, physical strength, intelligence, background, or opportunity.
Neither are people equally inclined toward evil, even if they have the same hereditary and environmental factors. The writers of the constitution were not wrong, however, for they did not intend to say that all men are equally talented, industrious, or trustworthy, but only that every person is entitled to be regarded with respect that all possess the same rights, and every effort should be made to give each an equal opportunity.

This truth is also taught in the Bible (Holy Book). “For there is no respecter of persons with God”. Rulers and their subjects find a common level before the law and the foot of the cross.
The acronym, BAYELSA is created from three Local Government Areas which are Brass, Yenagoa, and Sagbama from the old Rivers State in 1996 by the Late Head of State, General Sani Abacha. The slogan, Glory of All Lands is derived from the Bible precisely in the book of Prophet Ezekiel Chapter 20:6, 15 respectively.
What can the righteous do, if the foundations is destroyed?
Bayelsa the only homogenous state of the Ijaws is made up of eight (8) local government areas such as Brass, Ekeremor, Nembe, Ogbia, Kolokuma/Opokuma, Sagbama, Southern Ijaw and Yenagoa – with three senatorial districts, Bayelsa Central, Bayelsa East and Bayelsa West.
The Poser is project evenly distributed across the state or the senatorial districts? Since the creation of the state to date, some selfish leaders have formed the habit of dragging vital projects meant for the State capital to their own communities at the expense of others, is indeed a wrong mindset.
Greedy political leaders are now chasing shadows beclouded with fear and suspicion over perceived persons or senatorial district is unthinkable.
Sadly, the lopsided siting of projects should be reviewed to give every local government area or senatorial district a sense of belongings.
For example, the state owned Niger Delta University NDU is in Amassoma, International Airport, Amassoma, Federal Polytechnics, Ekwe, Ijaw National Academy Kaiama all in Bayelsa Central.
Sports Academy in Sagbama, University of Africa (U.O.A) Toru-Orua in Sagbama, Teachers Training Institute in Sagbama, College of Education, State Polytechnics Trofani-in Sagbama LGA all in Bayelsa West while the only Federal University Otuoke in Ogbia LGA is in Bayelsa East. This selected and lopsided siting of projects and appointments (employments) in the state must be discarded in the minds of leaders if we will make headway and make progress in Bayelsa State as the Glory of All Lands.
No section or part of the state is superior to the other. We are all equal and there is no Jew nor Gentile in Bayelsa State. Therefore, what is good for the goose is good for the gander.
It is high time the prosperity government under Senator Douye Diri, should rise to the occasion and correct the seeming lopsided sitting of government projects or amenities across the senatorial districts of the state in line with the prosperity mantra.
