Tiwa Savage Stylish and History-Making Royal Performance in London – A Review

Report by Dim Oba – Tiwatope Omolara Savage popularly called Tiwa Savage, queen of Afrobeat made history as the first and only Nigerian musical artiste to perform at a royal coronation in England. In this special report, we look at Tiwa Savage stylish, yet collected and history-making royal performance in London.  From her spectacular voice tone, dance steps, performance, song choice and depicted-colour choice for her costume.

The Coronation Concert for King Charles III on Sunday evening of 7 May 2023 held at Windsor, West of London had over 20,000 people and broadcasted to 18 million online viewers.

The Sunday evening concert was held a day after the coronation on Saturday 6 May 2023 at the Westminister Abbey.  The coronation concert had a lined-up of international artists including Lionel Richie at a well-designed outdoor stage with brilliant light effect.

Song Choice

The lyrics of the song Keys to the Kingdom are quite magical and inspirational.  The song will serve as a reminder to King Charles III on his personality, responsibility and task ahead of him.  Every word in the song comes with a deep revelation of who the king is and what the coronation meant.

The song was released in 2019 under the licensed of Sony Music Publishing in United Kingdom.  There are several composers and lyricists to the song but prominent amongst them is Beyoncé and Tiwa Savage written in English and Yoruba. The song is culturally diversified.

Tiwa recorded the song with Mr Eazi in its earliest version shared on her official Youtube channel with over 4.9 million listenership since July 2019. It featured in Beyoncé’s album The Lion King.  Interestingly, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter is the executive producer of the song.

The Performance

With the inspiring introduction from the compare, it was a grand entering for Tiwa.  She was calm and collected, also focused to deliver a royal performance for the King, his queen, other royals, and Britons both live and online. Indeed, she didn’t disappoint King Charles III as he applauded her after the performance despite being distracted by Queen Camila.

Tiwa mounted the stage with confidence and serenity singing with a mic stand in-between the orchestra and back-up vocalists. From the first line of the song, she opens her mouth with such intentionality for the crowd to feel each word. Maintaining a composed mannerism but the stage was full of her presence from the beginning.

The blend of royal orchestra and the use of the talking drum of the Yorubas on stage, produced an harmony between London and Nigeria and by extension – Africa.  Keys to the Kingdom is a slow R/B soul moving song that despite it’s nature, Tiwa’s audience could not help but go wide.

Her Dance Steps

Tiwa is a good dancer and in all her videos, she is seen dancing with the background dancers to every move and step.  Although, in this royal performance, Tiwa controlled much of her dance steps but let it out when the talking drum players came up stage, she brought out the culture of her people on stage for the Royals and Britons to see.

Mild but truly cultural and interpretative of the song.  However, we saw the background dancers giving out creative African dance steps to the delight of the audience.

Her Costume and Accessories

Should we say, it was deliberate leaving out the white color in her costume?

Anyway, fans have hailed the brilliant simplicity but glamour and glorious green flowing gown Tiwa wore at the royal coronation concert in London that Sunday evening.

Under the well-designed light effect, the Nigerian-born Afrobeat singer, Tiwa came out sparkling with her necklace of gold and bronze than with a thinner chain with a cross.  While the ear rings and tattoo shows her cultural side to the performance.

Vocal Strength

Tiwa Savage as the Queen of Afrobeat, balanced her use of English and Yoruba in the song.  Her tone and vocal strength all through the performance were classical and will be forever remembered.

A royal voice strength and tone both in Yoruba and English is a clear indication that Tiwa is blessed with a good voice.

This history-making royal performance by Tiwa Savage, who was born on February 5, 1980 in Lagos Island comes in such a stylish way from far away London. She is blessed with a son with a net-worth of $5 million according to legit.ng.
