The Ijaw Youth Council, IYC Worldwide, has condemned in strong terms statement making the rounds over Governor Douye Diri’s recent comment that the Navy should protect oil pipelines and not private firms.

Spokesman of IYC, Comrade Bedford Berefa in a press statement noted that the statement is a handwork of mischief makers who do not have adequate knowledge on the activities surrounding the protection of oil pipelines hence they made such derogatory statements.

Comrade Bedford further noted that Governor Douye Diri should be commended for making the statement as the Governor General of the Ijaw nation who shows interest in protecting facilities that belong to the Ijaw people.

“The persons making such statement may need to study the reason why Governor Diri made such statements before disagreeing. This could lead to a dent in the image of the governor.”

The Sycophantic display to the gallery by overzealous Ijaw Youths, condemning the loud position of Governor Douye Diri on pipeline surveillance, is the height of irresponsibility and unfortunate.

Resource control agitation is the goal and not security men on our own God giving blessings.

Bedford noted that the surveillance contract is a slap on the Ijaw Nation, it is a guise to distract us from our collective absolute resource control drive. The Ijaw Youth Council under Dr. Alaye Theophilus calls on the federal government to legalise artisan refinery if the oil theft manance must be completely nipped on the wall.

The Council is expected to give support to Ijaw leaders and not openly make controversial statements that could portray us as being disunited, he added.
