“You Run The University,” NDU VC Tells Administrators At ANUPA Training
By Jonah Fubara, YENAGOA – The Vice-Chancellor of the Niger Delta University (NDU), Prof. Allen A. Agih, has charged university administrators to embrace continuous learning and professional development, describing them as critical to the effective running of the institution.
Prof. Agih gave the charge on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, while declaring open a one-day in-house training organised by the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA), NDU Chapter.
The training, themed “Building and Sustaining the University Professional Administrator,” was designed to strengthen the capacity of administrative staff and promote professionalism in university service delivery.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor stressed the importance of continuous learning, warning that administrators must constantly update their knowledge and skills to remain effective.
“If you stop learning, the brain goes to sleep,” Prof. Agih said.
He further underscored the central role played by university administrators in the academic and administrative processes of the institution.
“Every student who graduates, every staff promoted, even academics who become Professors — it’s through the efforts of administrators. You run the university,” he stated.
Also speaking, the Registrar of NDU, Dr. Emmanuel Amaegbe, described registry staff as the “live wire” of the university and urged them to maintain high standards of courtesy, discipline, professionalism and effective communication in the discharge of their duties.
The training featured presentations by seasoned professionals, including Sir David Suowari, the second substantive Registrar of NDU, who facilitated a session on Minutes and Report Writing.
Another facilitator, Dr. Guagha Micky Berezi, Ph.D., who specialises in University Governance at the University of Bristol, United Kingdom, spoke on “The Role of Faculty Officer in University Governance.”
The event was attended by prominent university officials, including the University Librarian, Prof. Pereware Teimo, and the immediate past Registrar, Dr. Benjamin Joffa.
The ANUPA NDU Chapter said the training was part of its commitment to continuous capacity building, professional development and the sustenance of excellence in administrative service delivery.
The association reaffirmed its determination to equip university professional administrators with the knowledge, skills and ethical standards required to contribute effectively to the growth and development of the institution.
